    We're ending our live coverage of today's tragic mass shooting in Louisville, Kentucky, as a gunman killed four people and injured another nine at the city's Old National Bank.

    Families and friends across the city are in mourning, including Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear who knew one of the victims well. He called for flags to fly at half mast across the state until Friday.

    The gunman, who was an employee at the bank, was killed by police at the scene. Police later learned the gunman was live streaming the attack and said they were working to get the footage taken down.

    According to a report by CNN, the gunman was told he would be fired from his role at Old National Bank in Louisville.

    A law enforcement source said the shooter wrote a note to his parents and a friend, which suggests he was going to shoot at the bank.

    The source tells CNN it is not clear whether the note was on paper or emailed, or if it was seen before the shooting or afterwards.

    Kentucky was declared a so-called 'Second Amendment Sanctuary state' less than two weeks before Monday's shooting.

    A new law prohibits state and local authorities from enforcing any federal ban or regulation, external related to firearms, ammunition or firearm accessories.

    The state's Republican-led House and Senate were able to muscle through the law despite the objections of Democratic Governor Andy Beshear, who neither signed or vetoed the bill. The law is modeled after similar bans passed in Alabama, Texas and Montana.

    We've just been hearing from local authorities in Louisville, after a turbulent day for the city as it recovers from a mass shooting at the local bank.

    Here's what we know:

    • The shooter was identified as 23-year-old white male Connor Sturgeon. He used a rifle during the mass shooting, which killed four people and wounded at least eight others at the Old National Bank
    • Louisville Police Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel named the victims as Thomas Elliott, 63, James Tutt, 64, Joshua Barrick, 40, and Juliana Farmer, 45
    • The suspect was live streaming, but police are working to get the footage taken down

    Thomas Elliott, 63, was among the victims of the Old National Bank shooting.

    Elliott was a senior vice president at the bank. According to local reports he was also a very a longtime Democratic fundraiser and a friend of Democratic Governor Andy Beshear.

    “Tommy Elliott helped me build my law career, helped me become governor and helped me be a good dad,” the governor said earlier at a press conference. “He was an incredible friend. These are irreplaceable amazing individuals that a terrible act of violence tore from all of us."

    In Kentucky, any person over the age of 21 who is legally able to buy a gun, can buy and carry a concealed weapon without a license or background check, according to the Kentucky State Police, external.

    Anyone convicted of a felony as well as people subject to domestic violence restraining orders are prohibited from owning a gun in the state.

    Kentucky does not have so-called red flag laws, or extreme risk protection orders, which allows law enforcement to remove guns from people deemed to be a threat to themselves or to others.

    Louisville Metro Police Department has just shared a picture of officer Nickolas Wilt, a newly graduated officer who was shot at the attack this morning and is currently in a critical condition after brain surgery.

    Wilt "ran towards the gunfire today to save lives," the picture caption says.

    In the photo, he can be seen next to Louisville Police Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel and the city's mayor, Craig Greenberg.

    Officials from Louisville updated the press on the status of the victims and also shared that the shooter was livestreaming.

    Police also confirmed that they had 'no prior engagement' with the 23-year-old shooter prior to this.

    "We treated a total of five gunshot wounds from this scene," said Jason Smith, the University of Louisville Hospital's Head of General Surgery.

    Officials gave the following updates on the patients who were treated after the shooting.

    • The hospital received 9 patients after the shooting
    • 3 were in critical condition and required "operative care"
    • 3 have been relieased from the hospital
    • 3 are currently in the hospital with "non-lifethreatening injuries"

    Governor Andy Beshear is now talking at the podium.

    "We lost four children of God today, one of whom was one of my closest friends," he says.

    He says Tommy Elliot helped him build his law career and he was "an incredible friend".

    The governor says all the lives lost were irreplaceable individuals.

    During the press conference, Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said today's shooting is deeply personal because he's also a survivor of a workplace shooting, and said a second separate shooting had taken place in the city."To the people who survived, whether you are physically hurt or not I know that you are hurting too. We are here for you as well," he said.

    "Let's be clear about what this was, this was an evil act of targeted violence and to add to that tragedy a few blocks away shortly after this happened, another man lost his life and a woman was shot in a completely different act of targeted violence." Although he stressed the shootings were separate events, the mayor said "they both took lives and they both leave people scared, grieving and angry".

    We’ve learned about the other victims who were injured in the bank shooting.

    “We have a total of nine victims who are being treated... three in critical condition, including our officer,” said Louisville Police Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel.

    Three are stable and three have been released.

    An officer Nickolas Wilt, 26, just graduated.

    "I just swore him in and his family was here to witness his journey to become a police officer."

    “He was struck in the head” the police chief said, but has come out of brain surgery - he is in critical but stable condition.
