  1. What is this year's theme?published at 21:17 British Summer Time 1 May 2023

It will be fascinating to see how celebrities interpret this year's theme, which is “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”.

The German designer, who died aged 85 in 2019, was best known for his work as the creative director of French fashion house Chanel, a position he held from 1983 until his death.

Met Gala attendees have been asked to wear clothing "in honour of Karl". That could mean outfits which pay homage to his most famous looks, or contemporary pieces by Chanel or Fendi (which he headed for 54 years).

We also don't doubt some celebs may try and make themselves look like Lagerfeld himself.

Lagerfeld's own look generally consisted of sunglasses and his white hair pulled back into a ponytail. He was often photographed with his beloved white cat, Choupette.

"He was an icon because he had this genius focus on what was important to him and what he was interested in, and his uniform was part of that intent,” supermodel Gigi Hadid told Vogue.

“It was his armour, his way of becoming Karl Lagerfeld. Even 10 feet away, he looked like how Karl Lagerfeld was meant to look. He was awesome."

We’ll ignore the fact that half the celebrities who attend the Met Gala completely disregard the theme and wear whatever they like.
