    The winter storm is threatening parts of Pennsylvania all the way up to Massachusetts, affecting major cities such as New York and Boston.

    The forecast includes 15-25mph (24-40km/h) winds, with gusts up to 40mph.

    The system could dump up to 6in (15cm) of snow on New York City and 6-8in on Boston.

    Parts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey have already accumulated over 6in of snow, like Wantage Township, New Jersey, which has 7in already.

    Snowfall in New York City was expected to taper by Tuesday afternoon.

    Cities south of New York City - such as Washington DC and Philadelphia - were experiencing a wintry mix of rain and snow.

    Tens of millions of Americans are under winter storm warnings as of Tuesday morning.

    It is the first such warning for New York City since January 2022.

    The advisory includes parts of the immediate surrounding area, such as Long Island and New Jersey.

    All of Connecticut and Rhode Island are under winter storm warnings, as well as most of Massachusetts and parts of central and eastern Pennsylvania.

    Hundreds of flights from New York City's three main airports have been cancelled amid the snow storm.

    More than 330 flights have been scrapped as of 09:00 EST across La Guardia, JFK and Newark airports, according to FlightAware data, external.

    LaGuardia is by far the worst affected airport, the data shows, with more than 226 cancellations.

    Dozens of flights are also showing delays - though some of the cancellations may have been made to limit the impact on the busiest routes.

    Elsewhere, some 119 flights have been cancelled out of Boston's Logan International Airport, according to FlightAware.

    Hello and welcome to our live coverage of a massive snow storm rolling across the north-east US.

    Forecasters say it could be the biggest snow event in the region for more than two years.

    I took this photo on my way into our office, in New York. Snow here is falling at nearly 1-2 inches an hour. And it’s about to ramp up.
