The police officer’s body worn video shows the chaotic moment when he first approached Alec Baldwin in the aftermath of the shooting.

While Halyna Hutchins is being attended to by medics, staff on the film set are told: “this is now a crime scene”.

The officer begins asking who was in the chapel when the shooting happened. A crew member tells him “Alec Baldwin was the actor on set that pulled the trigger”.

“Can you help me find him? “ the officer replies.

We watch on video as outside the chapel in bright sunlight the officer approaches Baldwin, who comes towards him looking visibly shaken.

In a video just shown here in the courtroom, you can hear the voice of Joel Souza saying “ow, ow, ow” and moaning. Joel’s legs are in vision and he’s squirming in pain on the ground. He was also injured in the incident.

There are slight audible moans that sound like they are coming from Halyna Hutchins. As the video goes on we can see police officer Nicholas LaFleur handing an oxygen kit to the paramedics for Hutchins.

The paramedics are telling her to keep breathing and telling her she’s going to be okay.

Hutchins' hand is on her head, grabbing her hair. Her shirt is off, but there is not a lot of blood visible on the video.

For the first time ever, we see her loaded onto a gurney and into an ambulance.

Officer LaFleur is making calls to dispatchers asking when the bird will arrive—he’s referring to the medical evac helicopter.

When the helicopter lands, a few more medics jump out to help. They enter the back of the ambulance and are trying to get Hutchins to keep her eyes open.

Officer LaFleur starts collecting IDs from witnesses on the scene and giving directions that everyone will need to be interviewed.

Next LaFleur asks where is the props guy? An unidentifiable man says, “She has green and purple hair. You can’t miss her”.

Another man tells LaFleur Alec Baldwin was here and he’s the actor that pulled the trigger.

LaFleur then goes up to Baldwin, who is on the phone and looks very haggard.

"I was the one with the gun. What do you need?" Baldwin says.

  3. Police officer tried to save Halyna's lifepublished at 20:19 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February

The video shown in court features audio from several voices as first responders try to secure the scene.

Officer Nicholas Lefleur describes the different methods he employed in an attempt to save Halyna Hutchins' life.

"Deep breath, deep breath Halyna," you can hear someone say in the recording amid an audibly frantic environment.

  4. Another video shown in courtpublished at 19:58 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February

There's been a bit of a technical issue in the courtroom. But they seemed to have figured out how to get a video to work.

We can't see it, but can hear audio of a police officer saying a woman has been shot.

While we wait for court to resume after the lunch break, let's take a look at where Rust was being filmed.

The set is situated on a ranch in Bonanza City, New Mexico.

It has since reopened after the incident which killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, 26, has close family ties to the movie industry.

Her stepfather Thell Reed is a well-known armourer in Hollywood, who would train A-list stars how to handle a weapon.

She learnt much of the trade through him.

Gutierrez-Reed told a podcast shortly before the Rust shooting that her first time as head armourer was on the set of The Old Way, which starred Nicolas Cage.

Leading up to the trial, there has been a lot of speculation in Hollywood circles over whether corners had been cut in the production of the Rust movie.

Gutierrez-Reed's stepfather himself gave an interview to ABC News, saying Hannah was having to take on two roles, as both armourer and prop assistant - which he didn’t like the idea of.

Reed is listed as a witness for the defence in this trial, so we can expect to hear from him in person.

  9. Will Alec Baldwin testify in this trial?published at 19:10 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February

We don’t know for sure, but Baldwin is not expected to take the stand.

The actor will face his own trial, although no date has been set for it yet.

He has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in a separate case.

The charges against him were dropped at one point. But he was charged again after prosecutors said there was new evidence.

    He has pleaded not guilty

So because of his separate trial, he has the right not to answer questions that could incriminate him, according to the New York Times.

Warning: this post contains content that readers may find distressing.

At the beginning of the trial, there were strict instructions that this video was not to be shown on the live court feed.

And you can see why, it appears to show some of Halyna Hutchin’s final moments alive.

It is emotional and distressing to watch. As Halyna lies on the ground in the centre of the chapel, her distinctive blonde hair can be seen as she moves her head side to side as medics attend to her, trying to save her life.

You can sense the desperation and shock of those stood around her who witnessed this first hand.

Halyna leaves behind a young son, and watching this you can only feel terrible sadness for what unfolded that day.

Before the lunch break, the court was shown a video from after the fatal shooting.

You can see Sante Fe Officer Nicholas LaFleur drive up to the church on the Rust set and get out of his vehicle.

People are shouting for his help.

He gets a first aid kit out of his passenger side vehicle. He then rushes around to the back of the car, fumbling with keys to a safe for a gun trauma kit and oxygen kit.

You can then see Halyna Hutchins on the ground, and three paramedics are working on her. Another two paramedics are surrounding director Joel Souza, who was also hit by the bullet.

A paramedic shouts out the bullet is in Hutchins' chest.

LaFleur asks if they need air-flight. LaFleur exits the church and requests a helicopter.

It looks like Alec Baldwin is standing in the background looking incredibly distressed.

The picture is grainy, so we are trying to confirm.

The opening statements in the Rust trial are setting up very different pictures of what happened on set.

The prosecution says Hannah Gutierrez-Reed is reckless and sloppy. They used videos and pictures to try and preview what we will hear over the next couple of weeks.

The defence attorney took command of the stand with no visual aids. His speech was short and wanted to make one single point: “She’s [Hannah] an easy target, the least powerful person on that set. An easy scapegoat.”

Defence lawyer Jason Bowles painted a picture of a chaotic set, with budget cuts, and producers who were rushing to get the job quickly, not safely, claiming safety meetings were often skipped.

Bowles says the jury will hear from Thell Reed, legendary armorer and step-father of Hannah.

He trained Hollywood A-listers like Brad Pitt and Denzel Washington. Bowles wants the jury to see that despite Gutierrez Reed’s age, that she was very experienced.

  14. Stunt-double misfired days before fatal shootingpublished at 18:30 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February

The safety guidelines on the set of Rust are now being brought into question.

Jason Bowles reveals that there were two additional "negligent discharges" prior to the fatal shooting. He says one involved a stunt double and it occurred five days before the fatal incident.

He also highlights that production staff didn't have appropriate safety equipment, such as ear protection, when handling the firearms.

"You know what the primary thing was here? Rush, get this done, so we can get the money," Bowles says of the senior film producers, including Alec Baldwin.

  15. Baldwin 'violated' basic gun rules, defence sayspublished at 18:20 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February

Defence lawyer Jason Bowles is again talking about Alec Baldwin, who was a producer as well as an actor of the film Rust.

"He really controlled the set," Bowles said.

Bowles says his client Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was not given the time to train Baldwin on how to cross draw, where a gun is pulled across the body.

He also says Baldwin violated "some of the most basic" gun rules.

You treat your guns as loaded, never point at someone, keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot, Bowles tells the court.

  16. Evidence was tampered with, says defencepublished at 18:16 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February

The defence counsel for Hannah Gutierrez-Reed says that props were removed and disposed of in the aftermath of the shooting.

Attorney Jason Bowles says the move is "absolute and complete scene tamper".

He also says the live rounds that were thrown away have never been recovered.

  17. FBI did not test the live rounds, defence lawyer sayspublished at 18:13 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February

We're still listening to Jason Bowles, the defence lawyer.

He says after the deadly incident, there was no request made to the FBI to check the live rounds found on the Rust set for fingerprints or DNA.

Bowles says the FBI lab was requested to do a series of forensic tests. They tested the firearm, but not the live rounds, he tells the jury.

He also talks about the difficulty of knowing what is a live round.

"You cannot tell a live round from a dummy by a picture," he says, referring to a photograph shown in court earlier.

"The dummies are made in Hollywood to look just like live rounds."

  18. Lawyer says Alec Baldwin had finger on triggerpublished at 18:01 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February

    Samantha Granville
    Reporting from court

This is a high-profile trial because of Alec Baldwin’s involvement, but we’ve just heard his name come up for the first time.

Jason Bowles, the lawyer for Gutierrez-Reed, came out swinging, saying Alec Baldwin either had his finger on the trigger or pulled the trigger. He says Baldwin was holding the gun when it fired, and that’s why we are here.

“Just because there was a tragedy on set, does not mean a crime was committed by Hannah Gutierrez Reed,” he said.

Bowles is coming out far more enthusiastically than Jason Lewis for the prosecution. From looking at the jury, they are more perked up and seem to be more attentive listening to him.

It looked like they needed some caffeine with Lewis was talking

Jurors shown gun used by Baldwin on Rust set

The jurors in the case against Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who was in charge of weapons on the Rust film set, have been shown the gun used by actor Alec Baldwin.

Baldwin fatally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in 2021 when the gun he was rehearsing with went off.

Prosecuting attorney Jason Lewis told the jury that despite being called "prop guns", they are functioning weapons that can hold live bullets.

  20. Six live bullets were on set, prosecution allegespublished at 17:57 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February

The prosecution has shown photos of boxes of ammunition that were on set that day.

One photo, taken by investigators, shows the dummy bullets arranged in a box. In all of them, except for one, brass from a primer, can be seen on the base of the bullets.

In the exception, the primer is silver - this is a live bullet, in addition to the one that shot Halyna Hutchins.

He says in total, six live bullets were found on set following the shooting.

All six have common characteristics, and a box was found on set identical to one of the dummy rounds owned by Gutierrez-Reed's father, who lives in a different state.

The prosecution alleges she brought them to set with her.
