The allure of the allotment: One family's love for their plot
Allotments have been a feature of the British landscape for hundreds of years, and for the people lucky enough to have access to one, they can quickly become a way of life.
John Carter and his son Dave have had their plots next to Hearsall Common in Coventry for nearly 30 years, and John now spends every day there.
But now they are worried, because they have been told that they could lose access to part of the land - if proposals to expand a nearby electricity substation go ahead.
John and Dave explain why their allotments are so important to them - and what it would mean if they lost them.
Produced by the BBC's John Galliver and Emily Jones.
