Handful of stars: The presenting team scooped three trophies

It was Ant and Dec's night at the TV Quick and TV Choice Awards winning an outstanding contribution award as well as trophies for Saturday Night Takeaway and Britain's Got Talent.

They couldn't believe it: "We're really humbled, we never dreamed this far and we've had so much fun. It's a nice cherry on top of our 20 years in TV."

The duo are about to release their autobiography and Dec told Newsbeat they couldn't wait for it to go on sale.

"It was a little bit like going through therapy. It was a roller coaster going through the 20 years. We're really pleased and proud and can’t wait for people to read it."

The other hot topic on their minds was the revamp of The X Factor.

The new live auditions haven't gone down well with some and the pair also said they weren't yet convinced.

"It's quite different. I used to love it when they had the audition room so I'm still trying to get used to this one," said Dec.

Ant agreed: "I loved the intimacy of the original audition room. But what's the winner going to be like? I'm going to reserve my judgement till the end."

Battle of the soaps

EastEnders won best soap and best storyline for Ronnie and Danielle's story.

It was a first night out for newly returned cast member Daniella Westbrook. She's coming back as Sam Mitchell and was hanging out with her fellow cast members.

Sid Owen said the EastEnders cast is the best it's ever been

She was loving being back on set and admitted she got a really warm welcome.

Sid Owen, her love interest Ricky, was also very happy to have her back and was chuffed with their best soap win: "You're always surprised. It's great to win. We've got the strongest cast we've ever had."

The Inbetweeners won best comedy show and they couldn't believe it: "We're on top of the world. Pretty blimin' chuffed. We were a bit surprised because of the other shows in our category, which makes the victory even sweeter."

Merlin won best drama but Anthony Head, who plays Uther Pendragon, wasn't expecting it: "We were stuck in the corner of the room so we thought we had no chance.

Anthony said to get ready for an even better series next time: "We're three-quarters of the way through filming. Expect much more of everything. It's more ambitious, the scripts are bigger, the CGI is bigger. It's huge, it's just so cool."

Apprentice victory

The Apprentice won best reality show and runner-up Kate and boyfriend Phil were at the awards.

Kate is about to start work presenting on a new entertainment show on Five.

She said she had a few nerves about becoming a presenter but that she hadn't left the business world behind. Phil, meanwhile, is weighing up business offers.

They admitted they still hang out with a lot of their fellow Apprentice contenders.

Other winners included Top Gear, while Coronation Street won best actor and actress for the double act of Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) and Becky Granger (Katherine Kelly).

Lots of the stars of different shows hang out together at the awards and it was a who's who of TV stars on the steps of the Dorchester Hotel in London having cigarettes together.

One surreal sight was Peter Andre hugging Noel Edmonds, who won best game show for Deal Or No Deal.

Skins gossip

But a few admitted nerves at meeting the other stars. Kaya Scodelario and Lily Loveless, who play Effy and Naomi from Skins, said they were shy about meeting other actors but really wanted to meet the cast of Shameless.

Kaya is gutted she only kisses one person in the new Skins series

They were taking a break from filming the new series of Skins, but said it was hard work.

"It's tough at the moment but we’re nearly finished. It's really long hours. We're lazy teenagers and don't like the early mornings."

And like the last series, there's plenty more drama in store: "Of course it's another emotional roller coaster. It's Skins."

But Effy admitted she only kisses one person this series, which she was a bit gutted about.

They're sworn to secrecy about details on what's in store but did reveal they were excited when Jay from Steps joined the cast.

One person not getting carried away with the partying was Ali Bastian from The Bill.

She's getting ready for Strictly Come Dancing and says she's fitting in rehearsals on the set of the TV drama.

"I am in the corner practising. Today I was doing some lifts on set but I was a bit like a sack of potatoes so I've got a bit more learning to do. I feel my knees knocking just thinking about the first show."
