Rivers Cuomo, lead singer of Californian rock band Weezer has suffered minor injuries after the band's tour bus crashed in upstate New York on Sunday (6 December), police said.

Travelling between gigs in Toronto and Boston, the bus, carrying Cuomo, his wife, daughter and two assistants "slid on black ice" before dropping into a ditch.

The singer was taken to St Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, New York suffering with suspected cracked ribs.

The remainder of Weezer's December US tour, in support of new album Raditude, has now been cancelled.

An account of the incident published on the band's site by their webmaster said: "While the bus did indeed go off the road, plunging about 8-10 vertical feet into a muddy ravine off to the right of the Thruway thus coming to a very abrupt stop, it did not flip or roll."
