Marina Diamandis says her American campaign is going "fantastically well"

Marina Diamandis from Marina & The Diamonds has said her track Hollywood has been "fantastically well" received in the US.

After releasing the single in the UK in February, the Welsh singer released an EP called American Jewels in the US last month.

Whilst there in March she played a number of shows at the South By South West music festival in Austin, Texas and two sold-out shows in New York.

She said: "I'm making fun of how we think America is represented by Hollywood when it isn't - that was their favourite song."

US success

Her debut album The Family Jewels reached number five on release in the UK in February. Diamandis will now turn her focus towards the US.

The singer, who came second behind Ellie Goulding in this year's BBC Sound Of 2010 poll in January, also announced she was leaving micro-blogging site Twitter this week (6 April) by deleting her account.

"I've gone. It's over," she said. "I just think we have so many distractions in modern life as it is so I think one less is probably a good thing.

"The internet in general can suck a lot of time and energy from your day to day life and people don't realise.

"So for me I want to put that time into doing something a bit more permanent like writing a song or planning a stage design."
