Madonna says Lourdes is more 'fashion forward' than her now

Madonna has revealed that she's a "typical mother" when it comes to telling daughter Lourdes what she can wear to school.

Given the pop legend's notoriously risky sense of style you'd think that Madonna would be quite liberal when it comes to 13-year-old Lourdes, but it seems that she's just like any other mum.

The 51-year-old said: "I usually tell her to take off her three-inch or six-inch platforms and pull her skirt down just a little bit and take off some of the black eye make-up around her eyes.

"She does have amazing style, but I am the typical mother where I say, 'Oh my God, you can't go to school dressed like that'."

Madonna was speaking at the launch of a new fashion range she's created with Lourdes (who's also known as Lola) which is available in the US from 3 August.

'Inappropriate'

She added: "I always have two reactions when Lola comes into my room with an outfit on.

"One is, 'Oh my God, she looks amazing, what incredible style.' And then my second reaction is, 'She's dressed completely inappropriately for school'. So I have to, like, think with two brains."

The pair have named the range Material Girl, after one of Madonna's iconic 80s hits, and it's very similar to her trademark look at the time with studded combat boots, tutu dresses and mini skirts.

Lourdes is no stranger to the limelight with a mum like Madonna in tow

Lourdes has posted her first blog entry about the brand where she says the 80s are a "huge obsession" of hers.

She adds: "I'm 13 and I'll be 14 in October, so I can't wait for that because I am FINALLY allowed to dye my hair… THANK YOU MOTHER!!

"I am totally obsessive about 80's shorts… You know the kind that makes your butt look kinda big, with a grunge-looking shirt tucked in. It's kinda nerdy but I love it."

Madonna explained that Lourdes has to be pretty imaginative when it comes to dressing for school, which has helped with her fashion design credentials.

"She has a kind of a uniform at her school," she said.

"There's a restriction with what world of colours she can work with and so because there's a restriction it makes her have to be more creative and more resourceful.

"Then plus her influences watching films, watching music videos, I mean, she pays attention to what's going on on the street and what people are wearing.

"She's much more fashion forward and savvy than I am at this point."

Madge herself is no stranger to fashion. She was one of the first celebs to create a range at high street store H&M back in 2007.
