Max, Tom, Nathan, Jay and Siva say they "want to latch onto the boyband success of JLS"

A manufactured boy band and proud of it. 'The Wanted' are set to be number one on the official chart this Sunday (1 August) with their debut single, All Time Low.

It's already topped the official midweek singles chart, according to the official charts company.

So a rapid rise for the boys who didn't know each other before their auditions.

The five then had to live in the same house, Big Brother style, living, working and going out every night.

Jay said: "We just instantly got on, we're still in the honeymoon period, I guess."

Thrown together

The group was only formed in September by the same management behind The Saturdays.

Since then, they've been working hard recording for their new album.

More than half of the tracks are written by them, although they did get to work with Taio Cruz on one of the songs.

The boys are currently doing a tour of UK nightclubs

A year ago, the boys weren't really doing much, a waiter, a nightclub worker, signing on the dole and unsuccessful for six months on the audition circuit.

The only one who seemed to have his life on track was Siva, who was working as a model.

Speaking about the fact their single 'All Time Low' is probably going to be number one this week, he told Newsbeat.

"It's the most amazing times of our lives."

Boyband tag

A lot of time, money and effort has already been put into making The Wanted a success.

Jay says they're not shying away from their boyband tag.

He said: "We're proud of being a boy band. We think it's one of those cycles, it's cool again.

"It's like saying to a footballer - do you mind if you're called a footballer? Of course you wouldn't because that's what you are. It's the same with being in a boy band."

They say they don't see themselves as the next JLS though.

"We just want a share of that success."

Screaming fans

As they become more well known the boys say they love the attention of all their screaming fans,

"We did a gig in Andover, hundreds and hundreds of girls. Nottingham and Birmingham was also crazy."

Already seen to be mixing with other celebrities, Siva was asked about a rumour going around about him and Rihanna.

"It's a good rumour, I really like it. We just got talking in a bar, I mean a full on proper conversation."
