True Blood actors Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer have married at a private ceremony in California.

The pair met on the set of the American vampire TV series and announced their engagement a year ago.

Anna Paquin, 28, plays psychic waitress Sookie Stackhouse with Stephen Moyer as her vampire lover Bill Compton.

Stephen Moyer, 40, has two children from a previous relationship and the two actors have admitted that their first kiss was on screen.

Celebrity magazines in the States have published grainy pictures of the pair's wedding ceremony at a house in Malibu on Saturday evening (21 August).

The couple's publicists said in a statement that they were "surrounded by their family and friends".

Anna Paquin won an Oscar at the age of 11 for her supporting role in the 1993 film The Piano.

She also appeared as Rogue in the first three X-Men movies.

The actress was born in Canada and hit the headlines in April by publicly declaring she was bisexual as part of a campaign for gay rights.

British actor Stephen Moyer told Playboy magazine that their relationship was built on trust.

He said: "We trust each other so implicitly that there's never anything hurtful; it always comes from a loving place.

"It's not as though people I've been with before haven't been loving but with Anna it's just about pure trust, on camera and off.

"I have never trusted anybody like I trust Anna."

Anna Paquin has already changed her Twitter name to Mrs Anna Moyer.
