Lady Gaga has made her debut on the catwalk at Paris Fashion Week during the Thierry Mugler autumn/winter show.

The 24-year-old singer managed to negotiate the runway wearing towering platform shoes better than some of the more experienced models.

Gaga was dressed in a range of clothes including a sheer black top and painted-on pencil skirt.

Dozens of fans mobbed the show's venue, a gym in a working-class neighbourhood in eastern Paris.

Lady Gaga had announced that she'd be walking in the show on her Twitter account the day before.

She turned up halfway through, before disappearing backstage and reappearing in an all-white ensemble topped off by a lampshade hat.

In another outfit she puffed on a cigarette, blowing clouds of smoke towards photographers.

The catwalk was designed to look like a gothic cathedral with the singer ending her debut to the backing of her latest single Born This Way.

Thierry Mugler's new creative director is Nicola Formichetti.

He is Lady Gaga's stylist, creating her meat dress last year and also disguising her as a latex-sheathed human condom.

The singer also premiered a song called Government Hooker, which was streamed live on Facebook.
