Kings of Leon reveal documentary cinema release date

Kings of Leon will debut their new documentary, Talihina Sky, in the UK on 25 June.

The band say the movie, which charts their rise to success, will have its European premiere at the Edinburgh Film Festival.

The four-piece have also confirmed the movie will be screened at 150 cinemas across the UK with fans also being treated to a Q&A with the band.

The documentary will be shown in cinemas from July.

Talihina Sky tracks the Kings of Leon's strict Pentecostal upbringing in Oklahoma and Tennessee.

It then follows their transformation into one of the biggest rock bands in the world.

Drummer Nathan Followill said the band had never envisioned material gathered over a 10-year period making it to the silver screen.

"We filmed the documentary for the last 10 years of our lives, just goofing off," he said.

"We didn't know it would be anything more than just home movies, but it turned out to be something a lot bigger.

"We didn't hold anything back. We definitely put ourselves out there. I think people will be surprised at how comfortable we are at people seeing stuff most people wouldn't want to be seeing. But we'll see how it goes."

Kings of Leon are due to play the Isle of Wight festival this weekend (Friday 10 June) and at Hyde Park on 22 and 23 June.

They also have concerts in Sunderland (17 June), Manchester (19) and Edinburgh (26).
