Eminem hits US digital album landmark with Recovery

Eminem will headline the UK's V Festival in August

Eminem has become the first artist to sell a million downloads of an album in the US.

His 2010 release Recovery has now shifted 1,001,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

In total the album has sold more than 3.9 million copies.

Recovery, released a year ago, reached number one on the Billboard Top 200 chart in America and also debuted at the top spot in the UK's Official Album Chart.

Vice chairman of Eminem's record label Interscope Steve Berman described the achievement as "incredible".

"I have had the pleasure of working with Eminem throughout the course of his career, and I'm delighted to be a part of yet another milestone on his amazing journey," he said.

The album's success saw Eminem win two Grammys early this year including the prize for best rap album.

Continued steady sales will see Adele become the second artist to hit the landmark in the US with her album 21 "next week".
