Katy Perry has had seven number ones in the US Billboard Pop Songs Chart

Katy Perry has become the first artist ever to have five number ones from the same album in the US Billboard Pop Songs Chart.

The 27-year-old's Last Friday Night (TGIF) single is the fifth off her Teenage Dream album to top the 19-year-old chart.

If the song tops the older Hot 100 list next week, Teenage Dream will equal a record set by Michael Jackson's Bad.

The Pop Songs Chart is compiled based on radio airplay.

Before Perry's latest success Teenage Dream was tied with Justin Timberlake's FutureSex/LoveSounds and Lady Gaga's The Fame, on four number ones each.

Last Friday Night (TGIF) is her seventh number one overall, which ties her with Lady Gaga for the second most chart-toppers since the Billboard Pop Songs began.

Rihanna holds the record with eight number ones.

The next Hot 100 chart will be released on Thursday 11 August with LMFAO's track Party Rock Anthem keeping Katy Perry off the top of the chart this week.
