Jessie J has admitted that the ankle injury which has seen her cancel appearances this summer was "worse than people thought".

She said she's been going against doctors' advice by performing at some events.

The London singer recently had a bone transplant following surgery to have her left ankle reconstructed.

"None of my ankle bone is now mine," she said. "I've now had someone else's put in."

'Metal plates'

The 23-year-old was forced to pull out of some gigs this summer including scheduled festival slots at T In The Park and Lovebox.

She did make it on to stage at Glastonbury, V Festival and The Big Chill.

It's after she fell off the stage during rehearsals for a show at Wembley Stadium in June.

"It's worse than people think it is because I haven't really gone into detail about it," she told Newsbeat.

"If I can never wear heels again then I'll just have to get some bad boy trainers. It is what it is."

"I've had metal plates and bolts and all sorts. You have your moments when you feel like, 'I can do this, I can do this.'"

"You have your moments where sometimes people don't realise how much pain you're in and you can't tell them.

"You're standing and doing signings and you want to cry and you can't because if you do then it will be on the news that you've had a breakdown.

"It's slowed me down a bit but now I'm fighting. Now I'm getting better. I'm coming back and even harder."

Jessie J topped the BBC's Sound Of 2011 poll in January before releasing her debut album Who You Are in February.

She reached number one with her track Price Tag at the start of the year.
