Rupert Grint says he's "sad" to see the film series come to an end

Rupert Grint says he'd like there to be a Harry Potter reunion in the future.

The 23-year-old stars in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, which topped the UK box office in July.

The film is released on DVD this Friday, 2 December.

"A reunion does sound good. This has been such a big part of all our lives, hopefully we'll all stay in touch. It's going to be weird when the last DVD comes out and when it slowly starts to fade and go quiet," he said.

"Then I'm going to realise that it really is over. It's kind of sad really."

'Good memories'

The actor also revealed he hasn't viewed any of the Harry Potter films for some time.

"I haven't watched any of these films for so long now. I don't think since the premieres I've actually sat and watched them," he said.

"I see glimpses of the films on TV, and recently I've seen a lot of early footage of us from when we were so young. It's weird, it feels like a different person really.

"It becomes clear how long it's been and how much of our lives this has taken over. It's all good memories, I've loved every minute of it so it's very sad that it's over.

Grint says his favourite film to shoot was Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

"For me, I'll always love the third one, and this one is such a great way to end I think, it's a really huge epic story that's got everything in it - love, death, it's really quite emotional."

But the actor said spending so much time on the films meant he missed out on some aspects of childhood.

"I always love doing it but you do make sacrifices," he admitted. "Whenever I went back to school was when I noticed it the most.

"I found it quite hard to fit back into that environment. You miss out a lot of the in-jokes."

Now the Harry Potter series has come to an end, Grint is said to have a number of other acting roles lined up.

The actor is due to play the part of Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards in the forthcoming film about the former British ski jumper's life.

The 23-year-old also recently appeared in the video for Lego House by Ed Sheeran.

Earlier this week, Grint was named one of the UK's richest young celebrities.
