Snoop Dogg is facing a minor drug charge in the US state of Texas after border agents say they found several joints on his tour bus.

The rapper was arrested at a highway checkpoint and cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the local sheriff's office, a border agent smelled marijuana smoke coming from the bus.

A search by a sniffer dog uncovered a prescription bottle with several marijuana cigarettes in a bin.

Several other small amounts of cannabis were found in two other containers.

The 40-year-old, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, admitted the drugs were his and he was released.

The rapper has told reporters in the past that he has a licence to use medical marijuana in his home state of California because he suffers from migraines and blurred vision.

Country singer Willie Nelson was arrested in November 2010 for marijuana possession at that same checkpoint.
