The new Mumford & Sons track, called I Will Wait, has had its worldwide debut on BBC Radio 1.
The track features on the band's second album, Babel, which will be released on 24 September and has been produced by Markus Dravs.
Speaking to Huw Stephens on Zane Lowe's show, keyboardist Ben Lovett said the band was trying to keep things simple.
"We didn't want to do anything massively new. We weren't trying to push the boat out too much," he said.
"We're quite a basic band in our set-up and our mentality.
"We just wanted to keep on recording songs and writing songs and the basic elements that we do and not get too heavy with it."

UK dates
Mumford & Sons are touring America at the moment with their Gentlemen of the Road mini-festivals.
Ben Lovett says he hopes the band will play some UK dates later this year in support of Babel.
"We're just trying to figure it out at the moment," he said.
"We're long overdue. It's been a while. We just want to play some UK dates."
Mumford & Sons - made up of Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, Country Winston Marshall and Ted Dwane - released their debut album Sigh No More in 2009.
It won best British album at the Brits last year and made it to number two in the American and UK album charts.
Ben Lovett says recording their second album was an enjoyable process.
"We got to grips with it properly at the beginning of this year," he said.
"It takes a bit of time to get our heads out of the road mentality and get used to waking up in our own beds in London and travelling to the studio.
"We eventually settled down and got recording and it was actually a really enjoyable and challenging process."
