Rapper Jay-Z is working on the soundtrack for the upcoming film The Great Gatsby, says his producer.

Made by Romeo & Juliet and Moulin Rouge director Baz Luhrmann, the movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire.

The Bullitts, real name Jeymes Samuel, tweeted the news on Sunday 30 December.

He wrote: "Jay-Z and myself have been working tirelessly on the score for the upcoming #CLASSIC The Great Gatsby! It is too DOPE for words!"

One of the trailers for the film already suggested that Jay-Z would be working on the soundtrack as it featured his collaboration with Kanye West, No Church in the Wild.

The film is based on the famous book by F. Scott Fitzgerald and is set among wealthy Americans during the 1920s.

Leonardo DiCaprio will play the title character, Jay Gatsby, a mysterious millionaire who throws lavish house parties.

The film was originally due for release last month but was delayed to make sure the adaptation "reached the largest audience possible".

It is now expected in cinemas this May.
