Calvin Harris makes chart history with eight top 10s

Calvin Harris has made chart history by becoming the first artist to have eight top 10 hits from one studio album.

His track I Need Your Love, featuring singer Ellie Goulding, climbed to number seven on the Official Chart at the weekend.

He tweeted his delight at the news: "Eight Top 10s from my album 18 Months now! So happy!!!"

The DJ and producer from Dumfries has now overtaken Michael Jackson, who previously held the record.

The star had seven top 10 hits from both his 1987 album Bad and his 1991 record Dangerous.

Calvin Harris is the first artist in the 60-year history of the Official Singles Chart to achieve the feat.

Martin Talbot, from the Official Charts Company, said: "Many artists only achieve a handful of hits in their entire careers, so for any act to secure three or four from one album is an excellent achievement.

"In turn, eight top 10s from one album is not just impressive, it is absolutely remarkable. And, of course, record breaking. Congratulations to Calvin Harris, the modern day hit-maker."

Female success

His run began back in June 2011 when his track Bounce, featuring Kelis, went to number two in the chart.

There was further success with high-profile collaborations including Rihanna, Ne-Yo and Florence Welsh from Florence + the Machine.

His third studio album 18 Months has sold more than 540,000 copies in the UK since its release in October last year.

It has spent two weeks at number one and 10 weeks in the top 10 of the Official Album Chart.

Jessie J was the first British female to score six top 10 hits from one album, including Domino and LaserLight from the platinum edition of her 2011 debut album Who You Are.

She is tied with Lady Gaga, who also achieved six top 10 hits from 2008's The Fame and 2009's The Fame Monster (expanded edition).

Katy Perry has also had six top 10s from her second album Teenage Dream (2010), including the 2012 deluxe edition Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection.

Take That's 1993 album Everything Changes also had six top 10 singles.
