Two Door Cinema Club open day two of Big Weekend

Two Door Cinema Club have opened the Main Stage for day two of Radio 1's Big Weekend in Londonderry.

The Northern Irish trio played a set including hits from their albums Beacon and Tourist History.

"It was strange being on at one in the afternoon," said singer Alex Trimble.

"But it's nice to be back in Northern Ireland and the crowd were great, especially as they'd probably just rolled out of bed."

They said it was fantastic to get bands such as Biffy Clyro and the Vaccines to come to Derry.

"We know bands will do Belfast and Dublin and that's their Irish tour," said Alex. "To have people come over to the other side of the country is brilliant."

"It gives people the chance to see something they wouldn't normally see."

Weather wise, there's been a mixture of sun and grey clouds over Ebrington Square for the second day of the event.

The Saturdays looked distinctly summery. They performed on the Main Stage without Rochelle Wiseman, who's recently given birth.

And Una Healy said: "We do rehearse as a four. We've done a few shows now so we're getting used to it. It's never the same without Rochelle, without any member there."

Frankie Sandford recently announced she was pregnant.

On performing with a baby bump she said: "I think you have to embrace it, enjoy it and you forget about it once you're out there."

Scottish indie band Frightened Rabbit opened the In New Music We Trust stage.

Lead singer Scott Hutchinson said it was a "really great crowd."

"It's a tough thing to get people into it when you're on early but by the end of the set we'd done it. We can now enjoy the rider in our dressing room."

The band said they want to enjoy the rest of the day and are due to see other acts.

"I made us push back our return time to Belfast to watch Ellie Goulding," said Scott. "Anything Could Happen was my tune of 2012."

Other acts scheduled to play on Saturday include Conor Maynard, Alt-J and Biffy Clyro.
