Eminem and Green Day play Reading and Leeds Festivals

Eminem has topped the second night of this year's Reading Festival while Green Day played their second headline slot in two nights at Leeds.

The US rapper, who was 20 minutes late, performed most of his biggest hits including Lose Yourself and The Way I Am after opening with his new track Survival.

Dido joined him on stage to sing Stan.

"I feel like I'm not even working right now, just having fun," he told the fans.

"I think this is the loudest crowd we've ever had - I'm not joking."

He played with a live band and did a medley of three of his biggest hits - My Name Is, The Real Slim Shady and Without Me towards the end of the set.

Green Day replicated their Reading set by playing their album Dookie in full as well as a host of other hits.

Elsewhere on Saturday at Reading, Twin Atlantic unveiled a new track called I am an Animal on the main stage while rockers Drenge, Palma Violets, Jagwar Ma, Tame Impala and Jake Bugg all had sizeable crowds.

White Lies, who told fans that they used to come to Reading Festival when they were 14, played tracks from their new album including There Goes Our Love Again and Be Your Man.

The main stage also saw performances from Chase & Status, Foals and The Blackout with The 1975 playing a surprise set on the BBC Introducing stage.

At Leeds, Skrillex, Deftones, Bastille, Sub Focus and Kate Nash all appeared.

Glasgow band Chvrches performed in the Festival Republic tent.

Synth player Martin Doherty said the crowds at Reading and Leeds had been great.

"I think UK crowds are pretty up for it," he said.

"We were playing late on so I think everybody had the chance to get into the swing of things.

"We had so much fun last night."

Enter Shikari bring their dance side project Shikari Sound System to Reading on Sunday night, when they'll be headlining the rock stage.

Lead singer Rou Reynolds said it had been a busy time for the band.

"The last month has been really hectic getting this all together," he said.

"I think we're just about ready.

"To be an Enter Shikari fan, you have to be pretty open minded, so I think they'll embrace it."

Biffy Clyro headline Sunday night at Reading while Eminem travels to Leeds for his second headline set in two days.
