Festival Awards 2013 nominations process opens

The Festival Awards has opened the nomination process in its 10th anniversary year.

Festival organisers from the UK and Europe have been invited to put their event forward for an award in a number of different categories.

They include best small and major festival as well as a prize for best festival toilets.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony on 2 December at London's Roundhouse.

Many of the awards are for publically-voted categories. Those include best major, medium and small festival, best dance event and best family festival.

Last year Bestival won the prize for best major festival. Elton John, Snoop Dogg and Fatboy Slim will headline this year's event, which starts on 5 September on the Isle of Wight.

This year's festival season has also seen The Rolling Stones headlining Glastonbury for the first time and Biffy Clyro, Eminem and Green Day headlining Reading and Leeds festivals.

There are also separate industry-focussed categories. Those include promoter of the year and best brand activation for the most creative and well-executed sponsor activity.

A new category for this year is the festival technology award, which will recognise how new innovations are changing the experience for the festival-goer.

Jake Bugg picked up the best breakthrough act in 2012.

The likes of Disclosure and Rudimental, who have both played at festivals across Europe this summer, could be contenders for the award this time around.

Shortlists for each category will be announced after the application process closes on 27 September.
