Abi Alton, who was voted off The X Factor last night, said she wishes she had "gone with my heart" when picking tracks to perform.

"I did feel some of them weren't quite me. I was trying to listen to the advice of the experts," she said.

Abi said although she would do things differently, she did not regret appearing on the ITV talent show.

"The experience was allowing me to grow as an artist and part of that is you make mistakes," she added.

Her sing-off saw the 19-year-old compete against Hannah Barrett. Both were mentored by Nicole Scherzinger as part of the girls category.

"It was particularly emotional for me because I was against Hannah and [she] is one of my best friends in the house," said Alton.

"I think I kind of knew when I was in the bottom with Hannah that I was going home."

Scherzinger abstained from the vote, but Louis Walsh, Gary Barlow and Sharon Osbourne were unanimous in choosing to send Alton home.

They seemed surprised to see the pair in the bottom two, with Barlow commenting again that he disagreed with the way the audience at home were voting.

"I don't know what makes people vote," said Alton. "If people are picking up the phone and voting then that's why they're staying in.

"Sam Callahan has had a lot of grief and he doesn't deserve it because people are voting for him, so people want him there."
