More than three-quarters of students live in poor accommodation, according to the National Union of Students (NUS).

It also claims many struggle to get help from landlords.

The NUS wants tougher regulation for letting agents to help stop "exploitation of students".

The National Association of Landlords says it has a meeting with the NUS and the national student crime group next week to help tackle criminal landlords.

Newsbeat followers have been sharing pictures of their student houses @BBCNewsbeat, external.

Becky said: ‏"Mould and damp like this all around our university house and we've had a mice problem since October."

Natalie posted this picture and called it "our second house plant". She also said: "We've had mould, damp, leaks and no oven for a month."

This one is of the wall in Jake's kitchen. He asked: "How's that for damp?" adding "#studentliving".

Hayley sent a picture of her living room floor, which is covered in bits of the ceiling in her student house which fell through recently.

Mitchell tweeted: "I was eaten alive by bed bugs when studying."

He said he got evicted when he complained to the landlord.

But not everyone who got in touch has had a bad experience of student living.

Eve said: "Not all letting agents offer poor services to students. We've had a great experience, repairs and replacements done the same day."

Mike on Twitter said he'd heard that student living conditions could be bad so got advice from his university.

He said: "I chose this, especially after seeing student accommodation, worth every penny."

On Facebook, Jason said not all landlords and letting agents were to blame.

He wrote: "My student halls were horrendous, but had the most fun there. It is the student's choice.

"You do not have to live there - but shop around, look for somewhere else."
