Brits 2015: ITV defends 13 bleeps during Kanye West's set

Kanye West's All Day was muted at least 13 times for TV viewers

ITV is being criticised for muting Kanye West's bad language in his performance at the Brit Awards.

The rapper's set, which featured British artists Krept and Konan, Jammer and Novelist, confused viewers because of odd noises covering lyrics 13 times during the song All Day.

ITV bleeped the set even though it was aired after the 9pm watershed.

A spokeswoman defended the decision saying the show targets "a wide audience".

"We have operated a short time delay as standard practice for some years and elected to do so in this case, given the performance took place shortly after the 9pm watershed," she explained.

But the interruptions left people at home wondering if their TV was broken.

Others questioned why the issues hadn't been picked up in rehearsals.

Jonathan Ross tweeted: "Am watching the Brits. Is my TV faulty or is someone a little trigger happy with the bleep button?"

Former EastEnders actress Hetti Bywater said: "Erm, Kanye, can you please stop my TV from muting and just stop with the offensive language, cheers."

At the event at the O2 in London, Taylor Swift's jaw appeared to drop a little - as she heard the unbleeped version.

And despite covering up the sound in bursts of three to four seconds, some of the offensive language was still audible to TV viewers.

On the Brit Awards homepage Kanye's video is still unavailable to watch, as is Madonna's now infamous tumble on stage.

Earlier in the evening Kanye was spotted in a Nandos restaurant at the O2 grabbing some food before the ceremony.

It was the rapper's first time performing at the Brits since 2006. He was introduced by his wife Kim Kardashian.
