Rapper P Diddy has been arrested by police in California over claims he hit a sports coach with a gym weight.

Officers at UCLA university in Los Angeles had to deal with an altercation at the college training complex.

The rapper, whose real name is Sean Combs, has a son called Justin who plays as a defensive back on the American football team.

Nobody was seriously injured and Combs was released from a Los Angeles County jail after posting bail.

He's charged with assault with a deadly weapon.

The dispute, which involved a gym kettlebell, took place in the office of UCLA assistant coach Sal Alosi.

It's reported that a team assistant was shouting at Justin Combs repeatedly during a game which P Diddy was attending.

He's then said to have confronted the coach in his office after the match.

The 45-year-old has built a music empire over 25 years and changed his name from Puff Daddy to Diddy.

In the UK, due to a legal dispute with a DJ, he's continued to release music under the name P Diddy.

His 1997 debut album No Way Out went seven times platinum and he's won three Grammy Awards and two MTV Video Awards.
