He's just bagged one of the most coveted roles in the film industry as Spider-Man, but many people haven't heard of Tom Holland.

Place of birth:

Kingston-upon-Thames, London, in 1996.

Stuff you'd know him from:

Wolf Hall

He played Gregory Cromwell in the BBC's adaptation of Hilary Mantel's best selling novel.

Locke

To be fair this film was largely about Tom Hardy's character but Tom Holland's voice was used for the character Eddie.

Billy Elliot Live

Tom played Billy Elliot on stage in the West End musical by Elton John and Lee Hall. He was cast in this role because he reminded producer and director Stephen Daldry of Jamie Bell, who played Billy in the film in 2000.

Eight auditions and two years of training later, Tom made his Billy Elliot stage debut in 2008.

The Impossible

Tom got the starring role in this movie alongside Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts. The Impossible was based on a true story that took place during the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake.

He won the Hollywood Spotlight Award, as well as the National Board of Review's award in the breakthrough actor category because of it.

Tom's favourite film is Saving Private Ryan.

He went to the Brit School, famous for churning out stars like Adele, Jessie J and Rizzle Kicks.

He lives with his parents and three younger brothers who are Paddy and twins Sam and Harry.

Tom's a big fan of hip hop and did lessons at Nifty Feet Dance School in Wimbledon, London. Thanks to that, he was picked to play Billy Elliot.
