Virtual reality gaming: What we know so far
- Published
Virtual reality has been promised as gaming's next big thing for ages and 2016 is the year we'll find out if the hype is justified.
Oculus Rift, Playstation VR and the HTC Vive are all going to do battle for your cash.
The devices have been in development for some time and gamers have been getting very excited.
But when and where will you be able to get your hands on them? Here's what we know so far.
Playstation VR
Originally called Project Morpheus, Playstation VR is gaming heavyweight Sony's entry into the virtual reality race.
Details about their headset have been a closely guarded secret but we know it will be compatible with the PS4.

There's no official word on how much the Playstation VR will cost or when it will be available to buy at the moment.
But experts predict that it is likely to be around the same price as an Xbox One or PS4 and on the shelves by the summer.
Speaking to the BBC at the Consumer Electronics Show, Sony's boss Kaz Hirai says that there are more than a hundred games in development for the headset.
HTC Vive
The Vive is the work of Taiwanese phone company HTC and the American company Valve who run the Steam gaming service.
It was the first of the three major VR projects to announce a release date and fans will be able to wear the headset (through a PC) from April.
It's slightly different to the other two in that it offers more of a "full room experience" with users able to walk around while playing.
No exact price has been announced yet but some experts think it's likely to be the most expensive of the three machines.
Oculus Rift
The Oculus Rift is the brainchild of colourful entrepreneur Palmer Luckey and Facebook bought the company behind the design in 2014.

It's been announced that it will cost £499 in the UK and will come with two games, EVE Valkyrie and platform game Lucky's Tale.
That doesn't include the cost of having a PC which you will need to use it.
While some have questioned the high-price tag, Palmer Luckey has defended the cost.
It looks like the first batch of the Oculus Rift sold out in a few hours after going on pre-sale, and we expect those devices to reach customers in March.
