Joe and Jake say they wanted to be the UK's Eurovision entry so much that they quit their day jobs to focus on it.

"We thought, 'We want this that much,' we left our jobs," Joe tells Newsbeat. "We didn't have any money. We've just been singing and grafting."

The pop duo beat five other acts in the Eurovision: You Decide public vote on Friday night.

"It's great to know that it's paid off and the public have put their trust in us to represent the UK," he adds.

Jake admits: "It was a big risk to just focus all of our time on this because obviously we could have not won."

The 20-year-old from Stoke-on-Trent worked in radiography in a hospital, while Joe, 21, had a job in a school PE department in Ruthin, north Wales.

"I knew I wanted to put everything into this and just rehearse [and] rehearse until I could sing the song in my sleep," explains Joe.

You might recognise Joe and Jake from last year's series of The Voice. Jake got to the battle rounds, while Joe made it to the live shows.

Jake says: "We were good friends on The Voice but once it was over we spent more time together and started working together a lot more."

The pair are both big fans of Liverpool FC. Is You're Not Alone a nod to You'll Never Walk Alone?

"That's something we never picked up on to be honest," Jake admits. "We should have asked when we started working on the track, 'Can we add a walk in there?'"

While Joe adds: "If the Kop sing that in Anfield that'll be a great feeling."

Despite the duo's guitar pop sound, Joe says he started out rapping.

"I was about 13. I'm massively influenced by hip-hop and Tupac. Being from Wales it didn't really work out but I can still rap, it's my party trick now.

"But I tend to get a bit of laugh at the end of it now."

Jake also has a party trick: "Mine's, very embarrassingly, doing Arnold Schwarzenegger impressions."

The boys are positive about the UK's chances at Eurovision in Stockholm in May.

"We're really looking forward to going to Stockholm and really showing the rest of our world our track," says Jake.

Joe adds: "We believe that this song can do well. We want the UK to be a credible act this year."
