Former child star Mara Wilson has thanked fans for supporting her decision to come out as "bi/queer".

The star posted her comments on her social media, saying: "I think I'm going to stay off Twitter for a few days. I had no idea this would be such a thing, but I guess it's flattering."

Mara starred as Matilda and Nattie in Mrs Doubtfire in the 1990s.

The 28-year-old also added that she had "not been clear" about her sexuality in the past.

She wrote: "Me at a gay club when I was eighteen. I feel embarrassed looking at it now...", external

After discussing the mass murders in Orlando with her followers, she shared a photo of herself taken 10 years ago during her first visit to a gay club.

She wrote: "Being a 'straight girl' where I clearly didn't belong, but I will say, I felt so welcomed there.

"I have never had a better experience at a club than I did then. Great music and people. And one of my friends met his partner that night!"

She told her followers that she hasn't been to one since college, except once when a friend brought her along.

"I didn't feel like I belonged there," she wrote.

"But the LGBTQ community has always felt like home, especially a few years later when I, uh, learned something about myself."

"Your support is much appreciated. I will say, though, I'm still gonna be pretty private about my relationships, as I always have been."
