Social media laughs at England being knocked out of Euro 2016 by Iceland

It's only been a few hours since England were knocked out of Euro 2016 by Iceland, ranked 34 in the world, but the jokes and memes are well under way.

This one's good.

"An Englishman, an Irishman and a Scotsman walk into a bar... to watch Wales play in the quarter-finals." Boom boom.

And after the UK's vote to leave the EU, it's also provided people around Europe with lots of ammunition to poke fun at England.

The running gag of the day is most definitely - Brexit.

It says "only England could manage to exit Europe twice in one week".

Gillian used the Leave pledge to give £350m to the NHS to let rip at England.

She posted a photoshopped picture of the Leave campaign bus.

Marco used pleas from Remain supporters for a second EU referendum.

Marco photoshopped the online petition calling for another vote.

John likened the team to a bunch of muppets.

His post said "this pretty much sums them up".

A French Instagram user posted a photo of a plane "carrying" England home.

It's underneath photos of Welsh captain Gareth Bale and French striker Antoine Griezmann.

Someone used the supermarket Iceland to make a joke.

Dj Big Ren wrote that "Iceland is supposed to be cheap but Joe Hart saved nothing."

This European user also poked fun at the UK's vote to leave the EU.

The post says: "Iceland has the EU referendum decided - England are out."

This one was posted by someone in Germany.

Scottish supporters also got in on the act, using Iceland to poke fun.

Sean used a caption saying: "Would you like any help packing your bags? England?"

This Instagram user can't spell - but compares David Cameron's resignation with Roy Hodgson quitting.

It says: "See you at the job center."

Nick posted a tweet onto his Instagram account comparing the pay of the two managers.

His post says that Roy Hodgson is paid $4.6m and Iceland's manager is a part-time dentist.
