Nope - we've not used the wrong photo, Jar Jar Binks is one of the suggestions

People on Twitter have been suggesting candidates they would rather have as the UK's ambassador to the US than Nigel Farage.

It's after America's President-elect, Donald Trump, tweeted that he thinks UKIP's leader would do a "great job".

Downing Street, though, says it's irrelevant - because the role isn't up for grabs.

Nonetheless, Twitter users have been weighing in with alternative suggestions.

Here are a few of our favourites.

Lots of people have gone for recognisable faces from TV and film, starting with everyone's favourite Star Wars character.

Alistair tweeted saying Jar Jar Binks has experience as "the representative from Naboo"., external

Chrissi made a suggestion for hardcore Simpsons fans.

He nominated "this inanimate carbon rod"., external

The official David Brent movie account got involved too.

It tweeted a meme of David Brent's face., external

This might hurt your brain a bit, but Caity tweeted that there's only one man "to get the job done".

She shared a very intense meme of Phil Mitchell., external

There's also a nomination fans of the X Factor will enjoy.

Paul tweeted a photo of Honey G., external

Comedian David Schneider referenced an infamous BBC news blunder - the time business studies graduate Guy Goma was mistaken for a technology expert and interviewed live on TV.

He shared a photo of Guy's face the moment he realised what had happened., external

And sticking with BBC news for a second.

Elena suggested Bounce the Dog, who was a guest on the news channel. She described him as the "only one realistic choice"., external

Other people kept things closer to home, and put a good word in on behalf of their own pets.

Kitty suggested her Rottweiler, "who once got his head stuck in our cat flap & had to be greased with butter to be released"., external

Jon said he "would like to nominate [his] dog as British ambassador to the United States"., external

Finally, there were those whose suggestions were a bit more abstract.

Ryan tweeted a meme of a surfing sheep., external

Suze suggested a brick., external

Sandy wanted to give the job to "this napkin, under a table, in a Tesco Extra cafe, outside reading"., external
