Are these Britain's worst Christmas trees?

Christmas tree in Cardiff

Cardiff is the latest city to upset its residents with its Christmas tree offering, costing £10,000 a year.

The council have apologised after the pre-decorated "tree-shaped structure" from China turned up measuring 40ft - not the 40m, or 131ft they'd expected.

"We apologise to everyone who was expecting a bigger tree and are cutting the person responsible down to size," said a spokeswoman.

But the Cardiff tree isn't Britain's only disappointing festive display.

Cardiff council tweeted: "The #Christmas Tree has divided opinion, & yes it's not 40m! But it sure looked Christmassy last night! #Cardiff", external

Micklehurst rejoices

Two years ago, the people of Micklehurst in Manchester were confronted with a tree which was slightly lacking in the height department.

They named him Terry.

But now, Terry has a playmate - Terrific Terry - who is majestic in comparison.

"The tree was nicknamed Terry when it was planted in 2014," former Mayor of Mossley, Lesley Bill, told local news site Mossley Correspondent, external.

"Then last year someone cut the top off so it was changed to 'Tragic Terry'.

"But we wanted to make sure there were decent trees for top and bottom Mossley so we are very pleased with the outcome."

Larne's new Christmas tree replaces the old one which has been described as an 'eyesore'

A Christmas tree in Larne, Country Antrim has been replaced after complaints.

Local people and councillors had taken to Facebook to say the "sad-looking tree" was an "eyesore".

A much bushier fir has now been installed.

Bristol's lacklustre lights

It's not just the size of the shrub which is proving a letdown.

People at the Christmas light ceremony in the aptly named St Nicholas Market in Bristol were underwhelmed by the yuletide sparkle.

Covered live on Facebook, external by the Bristol Post, it's not exactly clear when (or if) the lights have been switched on.

"I've seen more lights on a push bike," said Adam Senington in the comments.

To be fair to the market - the Christmas tree does look pretty good.

St Nicholas Market tweeted: "It's beginning to feel a lot like #Christmas #xmasstnicks", external

Peterborough's tree is 'breeding'

James Richardson tweeted a photo of the tree, writing: "Ladies and gentlemen, I present you Peterborough's 'Christmas Tree' for the second year running.", external

This cost the council £40,000 last year, so they're probably keen to keep getting their money's worth out of it.

And obviously inspired by Peterborough, Heathrow Airport have introduced a similar spectacle.

Rpipa shared a photograph of it on Instagram., external

"They could've had ours for a fiver," said one Peterborough resident on Facebook, external.
