"No animals were harmed" in that video from the set of A Dog's Purpose, according to an animal safety group.
Footage leaked to TMZ, external from behind the scenes appeared to show a dog being forced into fast-flowing water.
It resulted in calls to boycott the film and the premiere being cancelled.
American Humane concluded that "the dog was not forced to swim in the water at any time".
In their independent investigation, external into the video, the group, who are responsible for the care of animals on set, found "the dog was treated with great care, attentiveness and respect".
In the first part of the video the dog can be seen resisting being put in the water, it then cuts to the dog in the rapids
It was found that the footage had been "deliberately edited for the purpose of misleading the public" and was actually two separate videos from different times on set.
This backed up the initial statement from Amblin Entertainment and Universal Pictures, which suggested that the TMZ footage was edited, saying there were several days of rehearsals for the water scenes to ensure the dog was comfortable with the shoot.
American Humane did say that the handlers "should have been gentler and signs of stress recognised earlier" while lowering the German Shepherd into the water.
But "based on studying additional footage not included in the video, body posture, and the fact that he quickly and willingly went into the water and performed the scene soon afterwards, a certified veterinary behaviourist concluded that there was 'no lasting stress response or conditioned fear of the water as a result'".
