A Norwegian website is hoping to crack down on trolls ranting in their comments section with a new trial.
Users of NRkbeta will have to answer a quiz on the article in question before sharing their views.
So if a user they want to tell the author how rubbish they think their work is, they will have to have read the piece first.
The website hopes it will prompt users to cool down before posting an angry response.
NRkbeta is a technology website run by NRK, the broadcaster owned by the Norwegian government.
It is trialling the quiz on its technology section and poses would-be-commentators three multiple choice questions when trying to post a comment.
The move was inspired by the comments left on a story about a Norwegian forum which posted photos of underage girls., external
The website published an article, external about its own readers' comments saying some of what was written was "pure filth".
The website's editor says that the site's regular audience can be trusted with their comments but that problems arose when casual readers visited the site and commented.
"We have a pretty good commenting field to begin with, mainly because it's a niche product," Marius Arnesen is quoted as saying by Niemanlab., external
"It's a lot of tech guys, smart people who know how to behave. But when we reach the front page, a lot of people that are not that fluent in the internet approach us as well."
NRkbeta journalist Stale Grut says that before posting a comment on an article, all readers should have the same knowledge of the subject matter.
"We thought we should do our part to try and make sure that people are on the same page before they comment," he says.
"If everyone can agree that this is what the article says, then they have a much better basis for commenting on it."
