Euro 2017: What we learned from the England v Scotland game
- Published
England's women have kicked off their European Championship in a quite spectacular way.
Take note, Gareth Southgate.
Jodie Taylor scored a hat-trick as they thrashed arch-rivals Scotland 6-0 in Utrecht, with Ellen White, Jordan Nobbs and Toni Duggan all getting on the score sheet too.
But there's still a long way to go in this competition - and the fans have been telling us what we can expect based on the first 90 minutes.
Jake Brown, Scotland
"Well I'm pretty disappointed," says Jake moments after the game.
His side, Scotland, are at their first major finals. It's not a good start.
"Six-nil doesn't make anyone happy, but we're not going to give up in this competition.
"We had some nice passages of play which was encouraging and it didn't feel like there was going to be lots of goals from them.
"The performance was lacking against England so we must work on that and deliver a performance against Portugal on Sunday."
Olivia Johnston, England
"I think we've learned that in the big moments England really can bring it and fight," says Olivia.
The 21-year-old was delighted with the team performance but believes one player shone in particular.
"Jodie Taylor has shown she really has that quality, despite all her injury problems, and will be huge at this tournament."
Kelly Dalgetty, Scotland
Kelly's friends were reluctant to talk to Newsbeat immediately after the game, with one claiming she was "too distraught".
Kelly, on the other hand, was up for a chat - you know to get things off her chest. "Well, I'm a bit deflated be honest," she says.
"Scotland played a good game, kept our heads and didn't give up. We have to stay positive but Spain will be tough and we are in a very tough group.
"It might be tricky but we might just squeeze out of the group."
Martha Warren, England
"England have really shaken up this tournament with that performance," claims Martha.
"You think about the other favourites like Germany and France, they had a shaky start and England have won with a convincing 6-0.
"I think that puts us as favourites and shows the confidence in this group of players."
Analysis from Newsbeat reporter Ben Mundy in Utrecht
It could be easy to get carried away by this result. It's just one game.
Yet it did serve to prove Mark Sampson right when he claimed his England players would be the "fittest team" at Euro 2017.
They were too strong and powerful for Scotland and if they can keep those levels up they will go deep into this tournament.
Scotland on the other hand must lick their Lioness inflicted wounds and move on.
Tournament football is all about the quick succession of games and they can't afford to dwell on this defeat.
