Constituency Profile

Delyn is a largely rural constituency which includes pockets of industrial areas around Flint and Mostyn Docks.

It is situated close to some large employers in neighbouring seats in north-east Wales. Despite this, unemployment is slightly above the UK average. The largest town is Flint with a population of nearly 13,000. The second largest town is Mold, which has traditionally been the headquarters for local government. Flintshire Council is based there now and previously it was the home of Clwyd County Council. The Westminster seat was a Labour/Conservative marginal in the 1980s before becoming secure for Labour in the 90s. The assembly seat has been Labour-held since the first elections in 1999.
