The European Space Agency's Cryosat spacecraft has observed a 6,600 sq km piece of ice dangling from Antarctica's Larsen C Ice Shelf.

The satellite's measurements of ice thickness have enabled scientists to build a shape model of what will eventually become an enormous berg a quarter the size of Wales.
