The firm which deports detainees from the UK is to be replaced next year.

UK Border Agency (UKBA) announced G4S had lost its contract for escorting detainees within the UK and on their way out of the country, from May 2011.

Reliance Security Task Management Limited will take over the contract but G4S will continue to manage immigration removal centres.

The decision is unconnected to the death of Angolan detainee Jimmy Mubenga earlier this month.

Last week three civilian security guards working for G4S were arrested in connection with the death of Mr Mubenga, who died at Heathrow Airport while being deported.

David Wood, strategic director for the UKBA's criminality and detention group, said: "Throughout the comprehensive tendering process, which began in September 2009, Reliance has demonstrated an ability to provide excellent service and its bid offers the best value for money.

"We want to thank all of the bidders in this tendering process, and G4S, which has provided this service over the past five years."

Reliance already escorts inmates for the Prison Service.

Mr Mubenga, 46, collapsed on a plane while being escorted back to Angola.

Three G4S employees have been released on police bail until a date in December pending further inquiries.
