Prince Philip much better, says Prince Charles after visit

The Duke of Edinburgh is "much better", Prince Charles has said after visiting his father at the private London Clinic where he had abdominal surgery.

The Prince of Wales spoke as he left the hospital with his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, after a 35-minute visit.

Prince William and Prince Harry were also among the visitors.

Ninety-two-year-old Prince Philip had an exploratory operation last Friday, after which he was said to be "progressing satisfactorily".

The Queen visited on Monday as he spent his 92nd birthday in hospital.

Buckingham Palace said on Monday that Prince Philip would "remain in hospital for up to two weeks, and it is expected he will then be taking a period of convalescence of approximately two months".

The palace said there was no update to Monday's statement, which had also said he was "comfortable and in good spirits".

Princes William and Harry arrived about 15 minutes after their father on Friday evening and stayed on after he left, spending about 40 minutes at the hospital in total.

They made no comment to the press and public gathered outside as they left the central London hospital.

Earlier Prince Philip's granddaughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie also visited.

Prince Philip will miss the Trooping the Colour ceremony on Saturday and events next week including the traditional Garter service at Windsor Castle and Royal Ascot.
