A 29-year-old man from Manchester has appeared in court accused of planning to help others commit acts of terrorism linked to Syria.

Jamshed Javeed is charged with the intention of assisting others to commit acts of terrorism and engaging in conduct in preparation for giving effect to his intention.

He was arrested at a property in Cringle Road, Levenshulme, Manchester.

He was remanded in custody at Westminster Magistrates' Court.

He will next appear at the Old Bailey on 4 April.

Mr Javeed was one of four people held after counter-terrorism raids on Tuesday.

An 18-year-old man, also from Levenshulme, and a 21-year-old woman, from Trafford, were held in Manchester. Officers also arrested a 29-year-old man from Oxford.

All three were detained on suspicion of being concerned in the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism and remain in police custody.

Det Ch Supt Tony Mole, head of the the North West Counter-Terrorism Unit, has said the arrests were not linked to any imminent domestic threat.
