East Cowes deaths: Girl, six, and man found at house

A six-year-old girl has died after being found unconscious in a house where the body of a man was also found.

Police were called to an address in Cromwell Avenue in East Cowes, Isle of Wight, at 10:10 BST and found the body of a 44-year-old man and the girl.

Hampshire Constabulary said she was taken to St Mary's Hospital, where she died a short time later.

The bodies of two dogs were also found at the address, following what police are treating as an "isolated incident".

A spokesman said: "[We] would like to reassure the community that there is no wider risk.

"Formal identification procedures are ongoing and we will not be in a position to confirm the names of the deceased until these are complete."

Specialist support is being provided for the family and officers will remain at the crime scene overnight, the force said.
