Police arrest gang who used broom handles to smuggle cocaine

Video released by the Metropolitan police shows the moment a gang of drug smugglers were arrested after concealing cocaine in the varnish on broom handles.

Three men are seen standing next to a lorry when Metropolitan Police and National Crime Agency officers suddenly appear and arrest them at an industrial estate near Dartford in October 2021.

The men had been sorting through a cocaine shipment from Colombia.

Five men were arrested at the scene, two more were detained at their home addresses hours later.

Police say they had previously heard the men in the pub discussing ways to hide the drug, they shared ideas such as concealing it in tines of tomatoes and pineapples.
