Relatives speak of inquiry hopes

A public inquiry into the scandal-hit Stafford Hospital has begun, years after campaigners first demanded an open hearing.

Julie Bailey, of Cure the NHS - a group which campaigned for the public inquiry, said it was a sad day but also a tribute to all the loved ones who had died at the hospital.

She said she was confident no stone would be left unturned by the inquiry team.

A 2009 report condemned conditions at the hospital, which are said to have caused hundreds of avoidable deaths.
