Extra ambulances for rural County Durham

Ambulance services in rural County Durham been boosted with the addition of two new vehicles.

The move will provide Weardale and Teesdale with increased paramedic cover during the day.

The county council's health overview and scrutiny committee also heard that crews were being trained to provide support to local GP practices.

And where the work-load allowed, they were making urgent home visits and carrying out routine tests.

Councillor Robin Todd, chairman of the scrutiny committee, said: "The committee was pleased to note the enhancements to rural ambulance services.

"We have also offered to work with NHS County Durham and Darlington, the North East Ambulance Service and community representatives to resolve any outstanding issues."
