Councils told to stop 'bleating' over road funding
Transport Minister Norman Baker has told councils to stop "bleating" for more funds for roads and spend the money they have more wisely.
Mr Baker said the government had pledged to provide £3bn for highway maintenance over a four-year period and authorities needed to share best practice on carrying out repairs.
He told BBC Inside Out South East: "Local authorities, of course, will always want more money but what we have a right to say as a government and what you have a right to say as a taxpayer is are you getting value for money from the money that is being spent?
"I'm not sure in every case that is true."
