CCTV installed at 24 new Southern Railway stations

A programme to expand 24-hour CCTV coverage to all 157 stations managed by Southern Railway has been completed, the company said.

New systems have been installed at 24 stations including Ockley and Holmwood in Surrey, Fishbourne and Three Oaks in Sussex and Hever and Leigh in Kent.

Systems at another 27 stations have been modified and all images are now fed directly to Croydon control centre.

Southern said images were stored digitally and were available to police.

"Gone are the days where there was no coverage at all, or images were fed into a VHS video recorder in the ticket office," said project manager Richard Hands.

"This state-of-the-art technology now means that dedicated operators can monitor any of our stations at any time."
