Anglian Water creates 40 jobs across East of England

Anglian Water is creating up to 40 new jobs across the East of England.

The company is recruiting technicians to look after its growing network of sewer pipes.

From October the company will take responsibility for an extra 14,291 miles (23,000 km) of pipes under a change in the law.

The new staff, who will be stationed across the region, will make up the teams caring for a complex network of underground pipes and pumps.

Customers are currently responsible for pipes outside the boundary of their property that connect to the main sewer.

That will change from 1 October when water companies will take control, meaning customers will only be responsible for pipes within their boundary that serve just their property.

Paul Gibbs of Anglian Water said: "These jobs are probably some of the most essential in the region.

"Without these teams, things like wastewater treatment that we really take for granted nowadays simply wouldn't happen."
